Tesla is opening its first new car factory in more than 20 years, as the company prepares to open its second plant in 2019.
The new plant will be the first outside of California, where the company plans to build the Model 3 sedan.
The company will also be building the Model S sedan, the Model X SUV and the Model Y crossover SUV.
The automaker is opening the new factory in the Santa Clara, California suburb of Sunnyvale.
Tesla announced the new plant in December, just weeks before it was due to open in 2017.
The company is also opening a second factory in Texas.
The Sunnyvale plant will produce the Model A crossover SUV and its smaller sibling, the S, and is expected to begin production in 2019, the company said.
