A car frame modification ban is coming to Ontario after a court decision that said it violates the province’s vehicle safety law.
The Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Mississauga ruled Friday that the province must ban the practice of modifying a car’s frame, which is banned under the Ontario Vehicle Safety Act.
“Modifying a vehicle frame is prohibited because it creates a hazard to the occupants and occupants of another vehicle,” Justice Richard Pimentel wrote in the ruling.
The ban applies to all types of frame modifications that add weight or add to the weight of the vehicle or the trailer.
The Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said it would appeal the decision.
The ministry will now consult with car industry experts to develop a plan to implement the ban.
